Diary of A Director's Shoot Day

10:00 PM - Preparing Equipment:

  • Crew assembles at the production studio.

  • Director briefs technical crew on setup requirements.

  • Equipment packed into the truck for transport.

  • 3 hours in and we are done.

4:00 AM - Setting Up for Sunrise Shot:

  • Call time 4:30AM for set up.

  • 30 minute breakfast.

  • I reviews script with actors while technical crew sets up cameras and lighting.

  • Cutting it too close to 8:00 AM, mad rush for the sunrise shot.


8:00 AM - Morning Shoot:

  • Cameras roll.

  • I provide feedback to actors while technical crew adjusts lighting and camera angles.

  • It was a 3 hours set up for a 30 minute scene; as always, the craft work behind every film cannot be taken lightly.


12:00 PM - Lunch Break:

  • Crew takes a 1-hour lunch break.

  • Director and producers discuss the morning's footage and plan for the afternoon's shoot.


3:00 PM - Capturing Authentic Moments:

  • Shoot resumes with full-on shoots

  • Staggered dinner breaks between 5:00 to 6:00 PM.


7:00 PM - Golden Hour Filming:

  • Made it in time for thee golden hour shot - always a classic!

  • More shoots to complete... Client approvals were good, no wet weather plans activated, it is a smooth shoot so far.


10:00 PM - Wrap Up:

  • Shoot concludes, and equipment is packed up for transport.

  • Director reviews the day's footage and makes notes.

  • Plans made for editing.
